Start with a few words at a time. It's always helpful to include a couple of words your child already knows to build their confidence.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- make two sets of the words and play 'Memory'
- paint a piece of board or a cupboard door with blackboard paint and write the words using chalk
- make a set of the words, lay them on the floor and ask your child to pick up a specified word
- use magnetic letters or words on the fridge
- write the words with a paint brush and water, or chalk on concrete
- use playdough to make the words
- write the words in shaving foam or in sand
- find and cut out the words in magazines, or cut out letters to make the words
- make a set of the words, put a paper clip on each one and pick up a specified word with a magnet on a piece of string or stick
- go on a word hunt - write the words on post-its and put around the house
- use window crayons to write the words
- make a set of the words beginning with a capital letter. Your child can match the upper and lower case versions e.g. the/The or here/Here
- use an iPad or tablet app that allows your child to write the words on the screen
these everyday activities are really wonderful in learning, I am thankful to Mrs. Rush
